JEE Main is one of the biggest competitive engineering entrance exams in the country. Every year, lakhs of students aiming for admissions into NITS, IIITs and GFTis appear for JEE Main. Since it is a first step towards IIT admissions, the number of applicants for JEE Main is large. However, for this year there have been a lot of changes in the conduct of JEE Main due to the ongoing unavoidable situation of Coronavirus or also known as COVID-19. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the nation is under lockdown, which has been extended till May 3. The second session of JEE Main 2020 (April Session) has been postponed until further notice. With plenty of extra time handed over to the students before the examination, how can they prepare to crack the examination? Pramod Maheshwari, Managing Director & CEO, Career Point Limited gaves some exclusive tips on how to crack JEE Main 2020 during lockdown to Careers360. Here are some of the most important points that will help students crack the JEE Main exam in the first attempt:
Alternative options of e-education
A crisis is also a great opportunity to learn and develop new forms of learning. Online learning applications and platforms are available that provide a virtual classroom ambience with complete notes, expert opinions, online classes, mock tests, etc for best student preparation. Online portals help ensure academic continuity and put in place technology enabled interactive platforms, to engage with students. The online infrastructure makes it accessible through the internet from mobile smart phones, computers and laptops / desktops too. This allows students to learn by staying in the safety and security of their homes and ensure better learning outcomes, save time and increase the effective utilisation of time.
Learning as against mugging
Refer to JEE Main syllabus as most of the questions asked in exam are based on the same. Check out JEE Main sample papers to know the exam pattern and marking scheme. Refer to previous years' question papers, mock tests, etc for practice. Learning as against mugging and then focused revision to get a strong hold on topics and subjects which stay in memory for a longer period is the rule of the game.
Get concepts right first
The idea is to strengthen the concepts and their application by solving mock tests and past years’ papers. It is important to read thoroughly and conceptually apply formulae in JEE Main type questions even at the time of revision. This will help students in solving the questions within a short time in the exam as most of the questions in Physics/Mathematics will be based on conceptual application of formulae.This phase should be effectively used for quick run through short notes and formulae and concepts at a glance of all chapters of the three subjects in a phased planned manner with equal time to each subject.
Attempt regular mock tests
To test and analyse preparation, students are advised to take regular mock tests to know their strengths and weaknesses. JEE Main mock tests play an important role in making familiar with strong and weak areas. Attempt a few online mock tests as JEE Main will be held online in Computer-Based Test Mode (CBT mode). Online mock tests will help students gain experience of attempting online papers on a real-time basis.

Stay calm and focused
Do not sit for long hours at a stretch, but instead take small and frequent breaks. These intervals are essential for the brain to assimilate, retrieve information and revive the energy. There may be many distractions and thoughts running concurrently. Maintain calm and stay focused with determination. Students should enjoy the exam and its preparation positively.
